Last week on September 3rd and 4th, AlphaWomen.com had the privilege of sponsoring an event at one of the most recognized business woman's conferences in Chicago at Navy Pier with over 2000 women in attendance. We had a booth at the 22nd Annual Entrepreneurial Woman's Conference and had the privilege of meeting so many amazing women at the helm in their lives. This fabulous event was put on by the Women's Business Development Center.

The Women's Business Development Center (www.wbdc.org) is nationally recognized for its advocacy on behalf of small, minority and women-owned businesses, and for its responsive and effective programs.Founded in 1986 by Hedy Ratner and Carol Dougal, the organization has helped over 55,000 women in the greater Chicago area.

We found out about this event at the last minute and to our dismay there was only one booth left over and it was located way in the back of the mart but being the AlphaWomen Team that we are, we threw our shoulders back and held our heads high and took the mart over with a roaring success. We started out as no bodies and by the end of the day there was such a buzz about us that women (and some men attendees) were rushing to our table because they "heard" that they we were "the cool" table!

We were exilerated to have left such a memorable impression on this group of amazing women. I even got to personally meet Eileen Fisher and give her one of our intimacy packages from Wet Naturals. She was such an amazing woman and listening to her talk was great. Eileen Fisher was very down to earth and real. It was so refreshing. She spoke with such ease and comfort like we were all sitting around a campfire and she was just speaking in a stream of thought way. No memorization, no reading from sheets of paper or screens, she was speaking from her heart. I was impressed and found her easy to listen to because there was no fluff, no exaggerations, no hoopla about how great she was........just the opposite, she was very humble in her rhetoric and just spoke plainly about her life, her company, her family, her workers and how she THEY achieved such great success as a team and company.

It was such a great day for the AlphaWomen.com team and we were so well received. Women were excited to have a place to come and talk about personal topics, in addition to exposing their expertise, businesses and services to such a great community of like minded women.

We were fortunate enough to have been placed next to a great non-for-profit organization called Bright Endeavors founded by Joan Pikas and Stephanie Wernet. Bright Endeavors makes and sells candles that are made 100% green. They are unique in that they are made from soy and palm wax. What is so special about this? Well paraffin candles are a by-product of crude oil and their candles do not emit toxins that are harmful to the environment. In addition, they burn slower, are biodegradable and water soluble.

But what I really like about this organization is that profits go to job training and educating inner city and at risk young women, ages 16-25! They are committed to giving these women the necessary skills to become self-sufficient, successful adults! This organization touched my heart because it was only 17 years ago that I was a single mom at the young age of 18 without the necessary skills to succeed or be self-sufficient. I have fought my way to obtain these skills and build the necessary confidence and self-esteem to get to where I am today.

Coming from this background I can testify that there is no greater gift to give a person then the ability to support themselves and their family. There is no greater joy or fulfillment in life then being able to be independent and self sufficient. I speak from my own personal experience that much of today's depression is caused by the simple fact that many people and countries lack the ability to be independent and self-sufficient.

This is a cause I will support and encourage you to support as well. Have a peak at their candles and their mission statement and you to will be convinced to share in their cause. Starting with the young is the best place to start because it is the next generation you are investing in! BrightEndeavors.com
