I'm a 28 year old woman hoping to become a beauty industry insider. While I became a lover of cosmetics in my early 20's it has took me at my late, late 20's to realize my true passion for it. While I am signed up for school, read mostly every makeup book there is, and took as many mental notes as I can on the subject, I am still lost and a little uninspired about becoming a makeup artist and or beauty industry hopeful.
I have joined alot of beauty industry threads, and asked for advice, but it always leaves me thinking that I have such a long way to go and my chances are very slim.
I would like to know if there is anyone on this site that is a successful makeup-artist or beauty insider that can give me helpful advice on what the industry is like and what it takes to become successful in the cosmetics field.
Thank You!

I was a makeup artist for years... the first piece of advice I would give you is to figure out EXACTLY what type of artist you would like to be and work backwards from there. Film? Fashion? TV? Retail/Counter? Special Effects?
Each of those "types" will take you down a VERY different path... some paths you will need to join the union and that is a whole new ball of wax.
If this is truly your passion it won't matter what you have to do or how long it will take because you will love what you are doing the entire time!! Go for it!!
Give me some more details of what you want to do and I will give you a few ideas to get you going...
Good luck!

Hi! Thank you for you reply!
Hi!
Thank you for you reply! Sorry if it took me a while to reply, I have been busy trying to find a job. I would really like to get into retail/counter, I think that would be a good place for me to start, even though I have zero experience in it.
Thank you again, I am so grateful you have took the time to help me out!

your quest......
I would follow your passion and desire to become both. One will lead to another. I can imagine you being a make-up artist learning your craft, excelling, and becoming a beauty insider. Find a niche, differentiate yourself from the mainstream and you will be successful. Don't worry about what others will tell you. If I had listened to what people said about my career move, I would still be working in a profession that I had become so unhappy with. I am in a very challenging arena, with lots of competition, but I am tenacious and will work as hard as I can to be successful. Remember, YOU define what is successful for yourself not what the industry says.
Enjoy your craft. People need your skill and expertise to enhance their beauty.
What fantastic advice!

Thank you so very much for
Thank you so very much for your advice. It really put some spark in me to continue my path and to go for what I really want. It really allows me to believe that there are actually people in the world besides my family that believe in me.
