How do you maintain balance?

Many of you, Freda included, have contacted me to see if I've dropped off the face of the earth. Thanks for wondering, by the way!

The answer is no--I'm still clinging on to the edge--but fun social sites such as AlphaWomen are difficult to keep up with when there are so many irons in the fire.

So I thought I'd toss this question out to you lovely ladies, many of whom, I know, are just as busy or busier than I am. How do you balance family, career, volunteering, creative pursuits, and moments for yourself, and yet still have a bit of time left over for things like AlphaWomen?

Surely I'm not alone in this struggle, so let's share some ideas to help each other out. Right now, I'm hoping you'll reply with something more helpful than, "Try only sleeping four hours a night" or "look into cloning yourself," because neither of those is an option in my world...

I just try to prioritize as

I just try to prioritize as best as I can. When that isn't enough I try to remind myself that I can't do it all (not everyday anyway).

This is such a great

This is such a great question. I am working 12 to 14 hour days and I don't seem to have enough time to post my own blogs. I love reading the posts here and wish I could comment on all of them.

I agree with feathermaye as to how to you view something like "AlphaWomen.com" as fun or as work? I love to journal and post it is so good for the soul. It is such a great outlet.

It is much easier now that my son is older and can drive himself everywhere and pretty much has a big social life but when he was smaller I found it even more difficult to find time for all the things I love. My biggest priority is my health and that can be time consuming in this day and age. I always make sure to set aside at least one hour of my time to exercise myself, even if that means at 11pm at night.

I wish I could learn to become more efficient with my time because I would probably get even more done than I already do now.

Glad to have you back. It is nice to read your posts again and "hear" your voice. Smiling

Great Post!

Choices...

My thought on this is that we all make choices about how we want to spend our time and we prioritize differently. I guess it depends on what is important to you and how many interests you have. I am firm believer that if you want to do something you will.

For example, some people say they don't have time to exercise. This makes me a laugh. I remember reading this sentiment while I was in college and Clinton was still in office. He had time to exercise and I am pretty sure no one is busier or has more on their plate than the President of the United States. So maybe that took away from his amount of time of reading the sports page, or calling his friend, or whatever but exercise was a priority for him so he did it. Point is we all have time for what we want to have time for but we may not have time for everything.

In my life, I always make time in the day for me. I ALWAYS get my exercise. If for some reason I don't exercise, it was because I decided I didn't want to, not because I didn't have time. This is the most important thing in my life and I feel that it's important for me mentally and physically. Not to mention my dogs need it. To me even if I am slammed with other things, I let them wait. Second, I always make time for my boyfriend (and best friend) because it makes me happy. So some nights when he falls asleep, I do some work but again I make time for him and the work. My theory is that if I am not happy, whether I get work done or not (or whatever the case may be) doesn't matter. This is not to say that some days aren't a grind. I think you have to have priorities and decide what matters to you the most Smiling
