Waxing - Part 2 - Ingrown Hairs | AlphaWomen.com [beta]

My waxing gal Sandy over at Bozena Day Spa wanted to follow up with our first post, Would You Trim That Bush Already, and share a bit about the dreaded "ingrown hair." Some women experience horrendous ingrown hairs after waxing rushing to the doctor thinking they have contracted something when it really is just a huge infected ingrown hair that can swell up to the size of a small egg. So we asked Sandy about this and here is what she said:

In answer to your first question, generally ingrown hairs are more of an unsightly nuisance than a danger, with some people being more prone to them than others. However, they can become infected which often clears up on its own when hair you get the hair out. Occasionally they can be quite stubborn and require medical treatment to remove. I have only seen this once or twice in the 15 years that I have been waxing, where a doctor had to lance it and remove it.

Anytime there is a break in the skin it gives a portal of entry for bacteria such as staph which we all have present on our skin. In rare cases this could be serious especially if one has a compromised immune system.

As far as ingrown hairs go some people start waxing to alleviate the problem of ingrown hairs from shaving, while for others they have more of a problem with them from waxing. f it does become a recurring problem there are some steps they can take and/or products they can use
