This morning, while getting my children ready for school, I experienced a momentary surge of flashbacks to childhood. Being a child of divorce, (my mother married 3 times)was the constant in my life. She made the cinnamon toast in the morning as quickly and efficiently as she brewed her coffee which got her day going for her job. She cared for 3 children, held a career, bucked the system from time to time, but always made me feel more loved then I will ever feel again in this lifetime. Of course, at the time, and especially in my teenage years, I made sure that she thought I was annoyed with her, and was not the most loving child toward her.
I have this precious pre-teen daughter who is reminding me of myself and me of my mother, and this morning, it just made me teary eyed, and proud at the same time.
Some of the things my mother used to say, such as "don't date the jocks, date the nerds,", or "don't quit the flute, just because your friends think band is for geeks"...these are things that I wish I had listened to, but sadly didn't....
So, I am curious...what did your mother hope to teach you, to help you become a successful adult that you now wish you had listened to? Life lessons from your first teacher. My mother died when I was in my mid 20's. She was only 52. Looking back, had I listened, I could now be a professional flutist (I miss playing and now, don't remember how) and would probably not have divorced my jock, turned loser, ex husband.... No regrets, just daydreams....Make it a great day ladies...

Well, my mom spent most of my younger years taking care of her own struggles, so I don't really remember her giving me advice. BUT my dad on the other hand always told me to save at least 10% of my income, which sadly, I never did. I am a terrible saver.
My dad has been saving 10% of every paycheck since he was 16 years old!! He is a carpenter and lives a pretty humble life, enjoying the finer things occasionally, but he'll retire a millionaire (He wasn't always a carpenter
)!! I really wish I would have listened to him in that regard.
My mom made it very clear
My mom made it very clear that family came FIRST. I always tell my kids to stay true to themselves and stay focused. Nothing spectacular but it's important to me that they have a goal(not just a social life).
