How much is reasonable to spend on working out? How have AlphaWomen gone about balancing the costs and benefits of a great workout? While some people run, walk, and bicycle outdoors for free, I absolutely love the woman-owned Pilates studio I have joined! My core strength is growing, my posture is transforming, and my energy is really boosted, and I'm really sticking with it this time. For the past year I've signed up for classes without thinking much about the cost. Having never been successful at solo home exercise routines, I've considered the health benefits to be well worth ANY cost.
Recently, I did the math and now I realize how expensive it is! When I compared it to a health club, my Pilates costs 3 times as much! However, considering the well-roundedness of my workouts and the level of attention I get, I feel my instructor is functioning more like a personal trainer. I am wondering what the going rate is for a personal trainer 2-3 times a week with great equipment and a modern studio in a convenient urban area. The personal trainer across the hall runs at $50 a session (is this normal?), whereas my workout is less than $18 a session. I know it sounds great by comparison, but that still adds up to around $2700 a year at 3 times a week!
I know there are several personal trainers, other fitness professionals and clients in this community, so please comment if you have information.
And for all, what factors go into your decision-making process for how to budget for your fitness successfully and sustainably? I certainly don't want to sell myself short!
