Klondike Highway Cycling Trek - Dawson City, Yukon - Solstice 2009

SusanEvenden member for 24 weeks 1 day Send a message

Imagine spending Summer Solstice atop Midnight Dome in Dawson City, Yukon, joining locals and tourists alike watching the Midnight Sun. Susan Evenden is organizing her second tour of the Klondike Highway. Cyclists will meet at Whitehorse Airport and ride to Lake Laberge for the opening night of the 1 or 2 week journey to and from Dawson City.

This is a semi-supported trip on which cyclists will be expected to manage their own gear. There will be a vehicle accompanying the group to assist with transporting a limited amount of baggage and for transporting bicycles to and from Whitehorse if required.

WOW this sounds like fun!

WOW this sounds like fun! Now that is another great idea, trips where women can go on to travel and see the world with others and not alone.

This looks beautiful and it looks fun.

Cycle tours

One of the problems I have is finding people to travel with. So many woman (and men too for that matter), want to go on great adventures but have no one to go with and can't afford the huge fees for a fully supported trip.

I take self-defence but my family still would prefer that I not travel alone.

Having done a few of these long trips now, I decided that I would offer minimally supported trips to interesting destinations. I'm hoping that there are enough of us out there who want adventures but don't want to risk doing them alone.

My fees reflect the need to test the route first and naturally to cover costs on the actual trip. I prefer to explore the area first so that I can provide information about terrain, roads, accommodations and also book a few special events along the way.

This year I'm exploring the Haliburton region of Ontario, Canada, and may offer a trip there in 2009 as well. There is a possibility of Newfoundland, Canada in 2010.

I am a Private Fitness Trainer with 18 years in the fitness industry. I have no problem taking relative beginners on these trips. I love watching someone triumph and to see the joy they experience from their accomplishment.

WOW! Very impressive. We

WOW! Very impressive. We should talk and connect and maybe find out how to offer these trips to our community of women on a regular basis. I know exactly what you are talking about in regards to not having anyone to go on kick ass vacations with but having the desire to travel and explore this great big gigantic world.

Let's talk. I think 90% of the battle is for our community of women to know that you are legitimate and to remove the fear of strangers!

cycling vacations

Distance cycling is a great activity. Anyone can do it with little training when compared to other endurance activities.

The feeling of accomplishment is amazing as is the camaradie. It is a huge stretch of your emotional self and you learn lots about what you are capable of, how you react when experiencing extreme fatigue and how that affects your relationships at the time.

This would be an excellent team building event for businesses, although my trips are definitely self-sufficient and would be considered "roughing it." Elemental like my business name.

The exploratory trip in the Haliburton region of Ontario that is scheduled for this summer is now up to three woman. This is a good number for the first trip.

Eventually I hope to have a selection of 500km trips and run 3 or 4 per summer.
