Let me pick up my violin and play a bit... my husband has been offshore for 2 1/2 weeks (he's a diver in the Gulf of Mexico) and won't be home for another 10 days or so, my kids are enjoying Summer and for the last week, my precious babysitter who comes to help while I work from home has been on her own vacation 'til next week so I've been refereeing while writing emails processing sales etc. Uber-Multi-tasking... this weekend it did nothing but rain and I was just too "tired" to do laundry or anything else... not to mention that my hormones have hit rock bottom so they weren't on my side either. Needless to say, I was in a bit of a funk until this evening's dinner...
My daughter, Zoe (4), is suddenly refusing to eat chicken. Since I sometimes take things way too seriously, I was in a bit of a panic that she wasn't getting enough protein. Tonight all she wanted to eat was pasta with Parmesan cheese...So I took some leftover chicken she refused to eat last night and mushed it up so it kind of looked like the Parmesan and put it with her noodles... halfway through the meal she states... "Hey! There's chicken in my noodles!" She looked at me with her brows furrowed and I just burst into laughter. I laughed so hard that there wasn't any sound coming out and tears were streaming down my face. She looked at me very seriously and said, "What is so funny?!" I tried to catch my breath and just told her how much I loved her. I couldn't stop laughing for about 5 minutes and that laugh... that core rocking laugh released this explosion of energy and happiness that brought me out of my funk.
It also gave me a huge hint to sit back, put the violin down and remind myself of how grateful I am for all the wonderful things in my life... which just happen to be the flip side of what I was depressed about... a fabulous husband who works his ass off to provide for his family, my precious babysitter who is 15 and plays with the kids in a way I forget to, my company that I started with my mom from scratch, the piles of laundry, which means we have an abundance of clothing for my family, and those raging hormones, which thankfully means we will still just have two kids!
Thank you laughter, I seriously needed that!
