If we had endless money to do what we wanted, when we wanted, we would probably have a few more kids... We have a boy and a girl, and now we can afford to send them to great schools, have their college tuitions in the works, and they are easy to travel with.
A little background... I had been on the pill since I was 17, even tried the Norplant (I was psychotic on that and had it removed!!)... once I had Zoe, baby number 2, I decided I didn't want to go back on any kind of birth control and be au natural until menopause!! My mom started in her early 40s so that isn't too far away!
So my husband and I have decided that we don't want to have anymore children and he would go in for the big "V"... Vasectomy!
We have half-heartedly made a few appointments for it before, but work got in the way... we both have to go to the appointment here in Louisiana since I have to sign off on the procedure. (Not sure if that's true in all states)
This appointment we have made and we are both here ready to go... tomorrow at 4... then the procedure will be on Friday.
I had great pregnancies so that isn't the issue... quite honestly I have thought about being a surrogate, but that's a whole other blog!!
I'm 99.9% sure this is the right decision for us... I'm a huge believer that when decisions and timing are "right" they happen swiftly and easily as this particular appointment did.
But there's always that "what if" question lurking.
I imagine myself with a third and I just don't know if I could handle it. I guess if it came down to it, you can handle anything, but if we have the option to create the family we can afford to take care of the way I want to take care of them, then we should take the option to do that... There is no shortage of love in this house but if everyone wants to go to Yale and have a big wedding (the only option for our family... there are literally 80 on my side alone!) then I want that to happen! Much more difficult with each child added.
A few of Ethan's friends have done the same and share funny stories but have been happy with the decision.
And like I said... I believe that there are things in life that you are destined for... if we are destined for a third, then that one rogue sperm will find it's way no matter what we try!!
So thank you for the sounding board... I'm off to the store to buy the bag of frozen peas for my hubby... I'm sure he'll appreciate that!
The Big "V"...
