Babies Getting Bikini Waxes!

I really had to share this after reading it today. I read Elizabeth's story and LOVED it. It was hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud several times. Then I read this article in the Philadelphia newspaper called, Pretty Babies written by Carry Denny. The article is bringing to light a growing trend where mothers are encouraging their eight year old daughters to get their crotches waxed. I am disgusted at the thought of this. How desperate so many women are.

I just want to know what crosses a mothers mind when she thinks that her eight year old or twelve year old should have a bikini wax? I am floored at this mentality and they are not trailer trash women either. According to Carrie Denny, she says that they are high society women.

I think this borderlines child abuse and really authorities need to step in. Some spa's are going as far as putting up signs with age restrictions that read, "must be at least 14 years old." That is sad when the spa has to act as a parent because the parents seem to have LOST their mind.

It is one thing for teenagers to explore and experiment these things with each other, but what I find appalling is when the mothers encourage it. My biggest question is, "Where are the fathers?" Do they know what is going on? Do they condone it? Do they care?

Is it any wonder why suicide is up in the 12 to 18 age category? When parents not only put pressure on their kids GPA's and achievements, but now they are pressuring them in their looks as well? What messages are these young girls internalizing? Let's not even begin to talk about how painful a wax is. Why oh why would a mother do that to her little baby?

One of Carries clients said they had a parent bring in her nine and a ten year old daughters for "microdermabrasion!" Okay, is the government going to have to step in on the beauty industry to lay down some guidelines and restrictions? Are spa owners going to be allowed to do these procedures on eight year olds? Why isn't a mother ashamed or embarrassed at these actions? Do they not have any cognizant of right or wrong? How far are they willing to go? That is just F&%KED up.

That is just crazy !

I know I have a sister in law that has been having my neices hair colored , eye brows waxed , nails done etc since she was about 11 or 12. She is now 17 and very high maintanence. She was always trying to be her friend more then her mother and always trying to make her popular. She now takes pills for her weight and has for 2 years now even though shes thin as a rail.So does her mother who is also thin as a rail. She is obsessive with her looks, body and social status all the time. The mother hangs out with her friends, drinks with them and takes them all to concerts in limos trying to be like them, young. Her own daughter grew up way to fast because her mother couldnt accept her own age and lived thru her daughter. Its very sad.

that is crazy. My son often

that is crazy. My son often asks me if I will let his friend hang out here and have some beers. I say sure, give me each of their parents phone numbers and I will call and ask them if it is okay. Of COURSE, it never is. I just don't understand why a mother would want to do this to her child. My heart goes out to those kids. How confusing for them.

What shocked me the most about reading this post was the fact that this is primarily highly educated and affluent women who are doing this to their girls. I just don't get it.

They have to be affluent !

High maintenence takes a lot of money ( ha )
