Dolce & Gabana have gone to far with this European ad. What the hell were they thinking. I am outraged at this advertisement and what it is implying. Why do the fashion and media industries insist on continually trying to keep women oppressed in their advertisements and programs? Why are they digressing where women are portrayed as mere sexual objects? This ad is despicable. It is proliferating rape and abuse against women.
Apparently I am not the only one who is outraged at this controversial ad, Italy, France and other countries are having the ad pulled. Two international women argue that the ad is an expression of our right as women to be "sexually free." It is a mere whimsical fantasy of a woman who is voluntarily giving herself to a man while a group of men watch. Further, because there is no explicit rape or porn involved the ad is erotic.
They even go as far as to say that the feminist leaders are oppressing women's sexual freedom by fighting to have this ad pulled. I am sorry, but I just don't see the fit. I don't see how this advertisement is sending a positive sexual message to women and children........let alone men. Is there sexual freedom in rape? Personally, I think the ad does objectify women and I feel as if I am pretty damn sexually free.
Not only is it objectifying women, it contradicts and image of sexual freedom do to the fact that he is holding her down in a very aggressive manner. What is freeing about that ladies? It certainly is not my fantasy!
One lady goes as far to argue that women and children are living in oppression all over the world and this ad is just flirting with something we all know to be true. In my opinion, it is one thing to know about it, see it on the news, but completely something else to condone it through an advertisement as if it is acceptable behavior. Why don't we ask the women and the children in the Congo who are raped continually how they feel about this advertisement. Why would we want to proliferate a devastating reality as if it is something that is acceptable?

I have always found their ads to be off-center. The ads are also very gay (male gay) maybe they do not "get" women.
But this is really bad.
images of oppression
It is horrible. While a few people may see it as a woman's personal fantasy, the fact that the majority may very well take it as gang rape means it ought not to be on display. It certainly will reinforce the dominance/oppression of women wherever it occurs, which seems to be most of the world, to one degree or another. Considering how an image is most likely to be perceived and interpreted should be part of responsible creation. One must wonder what the hell D & G were thinking.
Here is a link to the blog of a Professor at USC who focuses on images of dead women in the media. They are everywhere, and most people never even notice.
