Tonight I came across an article titled, "Honesty Online Invites Identity Theft" (http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/007612... and it made me realize just how careless I may have been when posting anything online. I have a Myspace, a Facebook, a LinkedIn, and this account, so I began to think I need to go back and double check everything I've posted and ensure my personal information is limited/guarded.
It also doesn't hurt to check all of your personal accounts (i.e., bank, credit cards, cell phone) and make sure you don't have obvious security answers, because your passwords can be reset - that's the biggest thing I gained from reading that article. Sadly, we live in an information age, where everything is out there (have you ever Googled yourself?), so we need to think suspiciously, to an extent. I can see how a pro/someone trying to steal identities can gain key information from what is put out there.
With those thoughts came more on the idea of 'what if there is an unknown enemy or someone looking to hurt you'? You never know if/when you get someone vindictive (like a devious co-worker, ex-spouse, competitor, ex-friend) who may already know how to answer a lot of your security questions. I've read a few blogs regarding divorce or splitting up with someone, so I thought this blog might be worth posting.
Be sure to also check out password security advice on Microsoft's site: http://www.microsoft.com/protect/yourself/password... . Here's to safe surfing ladies....
