Here Kitty Kitty Kitty.............

Friday night Christine and I were out after a very long work week. We were at our favorite wine bar on Rush. We visit this watering hole often, we enjoy the people, the food and the wine even more so.

Friday night was blistering cold, a whole 7 degrees here in the windy city. The night was still young, about 10:30pm, when we decided to call it a night and head home. I walked Christine over to Rush St. to grab a cab, we said our goodbye's and I thought she had jumped in the cab as I walked to my car.

I was minding my own business, trying to think warm thoughts while checking my phone messages when out of no where I hear........"Here kitty, kitty, kitty. Bring me some food kitty, kitty, kitty." At first I was annoyed and desperately tried to ignore the insults being directed at me from the back of a taxi cab full of young men. I shook my head and thought how stupid. Then it happened.....he said it again, and he said it louder.

I LOST it. I could no longer contain my sanity and the most incredible anger rose up from within me and I let them have it. Okay, I had a lot of wine to drink so I was a bit tippsy, but I was in my right mind. I whipped myself around and headed for the taxi where the obscene remarks were being yelled from and at the top of my lungs I shouted........"You f#%kin asshole, you want to see my kitty, get out of the f$^kin car and I will show you my kitty." "You want to play with my kitty you are going to have to go through this cat first!"

I was LIVID to say the least. Oh, but it gets worse. Out of nowhere, I hear this tiny voice go, "THANK YOU FREDA that is exactly what I wanted to say." Apparently Christine hadn't gotten in the cab (because those guys were in the cab) and the guys on the otherside of the cab were yelling obscenities out the window at her.

I was horrified that she witnessed me in this state of mind. I apologized across the street to her and she was laughing her ass off. She couldn't believe that I was seriously considering mopping the sidewalk up with those jerks. I really didn't know what the hell I was going to do once I got to the cab, but I was mad enough to confront them that is for sure. The guy rolled up his window and the light turned green and they took off. Why are men so stupid?

I have a feeling those young men (old enough to know better) will think twice about yelling obscenities out their cab window next time. Smiling

P.S. - I just found out that Christine had flipped them off and was saying, "f*$k you," too. They were baiting her to get into their cab.  She was just as angry.  I just didn't hear her.  Hmmm

So, I am not alone!

Uggh. This has got to stop!!

Good For You Freda!!

That's exactly what they needed! Why should you stay quiet when someone else is being an idiot? You did the right thing (felt good didn't it? )Smiling

YES

Lady blue, it felt awesome!  I can't even begin to tell you.  It takes a lot to get me angry and one of my biggest pet peeves is injustice.  I am not a victim, I am not a whimp and by God, I know that I wasn't lady like, but I was pissed.

I don't want to sound like a hard core feminist or a man hater, but I really think that this is going to get worse because as a society we are cultiviating these qualities in our young men and woman.  Woman want to be super sexy so they can compete and be the hottest to every man, not just one man, but every man.  They want to have POWER over men. We fill our TV's with women doing ridiculous things and running around half naked.

I am so glad for magazines like MORE, PINK and BeE.  They feature real  women who are achieving great things while their clothes remain on them!  As long as women promote themselves as objects, men will continue to treat us as if that is all we are.

What I find even more concerning is that a friend of mine actually said I should be happy that men still find me attractive.  That many women wish men would be hurling obscenities at them!?

I don't know what is attractive about it.  That comment threw me for a loop.

How sad

I find it very sad that your friend felt that you should be glad that you were treated so badly and actually thought it was a compliment to be viewed so horribly. Those same men would beat the hell out of anyone who talked to their mother or sister in such a manner. Surely there is more to life than being insulted by a group men who still act like three year olds with a dirty old mans vocabulary. Good for you, I'm gald that you stood up for yourself. I'll bet they will think twice about doing that to a woman again.

Sounds about right

I've had nights like that where men old enough to know better are yelling something innappropriate to me while in the safety of a car. One time I was even arm and arm with my boyfriend and someone yelled "I could do her better then you asshole." I just laughed but I tend to do that when I am uncomfrotable. I've also had many uncomfrotable walks by construction sites where Ive even had the nice greeting of "hey there sweet tits" yeah thats right he actually called me sweet tits I thought they only said that in movies. Anyway men that are old enough to know better like in there late 20's early 30's who are STILL acting like a frat boy make me sick and we should collectively as a smart group of women decide what witty remark we could say back to them that will make them feel like the idiot that they are for acting that way in the first place.

Great idea!

Great comment!  Loved it.  That is a great idea.  What is one line that we can come up with?

Kudos

Yippee! I love it when women stand up against that kind of crap. I wish I could have seen it myself. Maybe, doubtful but maybe, your reaction will keep them from doing something so disrespectful again.

What a bunch of A#$%*s!

What a bunch of class-less idiots! What rock did these guys crawl out from under? Freda, they are lucky I wasn't there, I would have given them a lot worse treatment. You and Christine are both right...don't let anyone talk to you like that.

Funny

Freda-
As rude and inconsiderate as those guys were, I found myself laughing hysterically. I wasn't laughing at what they said... I was laughing because I can picture you yelling at them in the street and the looks on their faces must have been priceless!!
