Irony of Ironies

Alphawomen.com has provided a much needed outlet, as well as a much needed network of support ever since I started blogging here. The conversations, posts, confessions, and feedback have literally become a part of my daily ritual. Admittedly though I find that in my individualist world of work and school, mixed with my slightly introverted personality, I am in serious need of consistent human connection that doesn't involve a keyboard. That got me thinking about AWs slogan, "The coffee shop of the internet." It is such an appropriate slogan. But in my daily life, I can't seem to find the coffee shop of...well...a coffee shop. When I go to a coffee shop I don't see people interacting, sharing ideas, disagreeing about stuff, "confessing" or giving support to one another. I SEE PEOPLE ON THEIR COMPUTERS HAMMERING AWAY ON THEIR KEYBOARDS. They're probably blogging, communicating with all their facebook friends or updating their status on Linked-In. Is it me or are we substituting e-timicy for real human interaction?

Isn't it?

Isn't it kinda strange how virtual media is taking over everything? Wouldn't it be awesome if we could have groups of Alpha Women in cities where we could get together face to face? I would LOVE it. I tell ya, after talking to Freda these last few days, I'm thinkin' my vacation plans next year may include Chicago LOL.

That is so funny, I thought

That is so funny, I thought the SAME EXACT THING. I actually plan on looking for internships in Chicago when I am done with my coursework!

I couldn't agree with you

I couldn't agree with you more!
I wish we could all live in a world like the TV show Friends. They sat at Central Perk for hours. Yet and always found time to work and each other.
Not realistic but it would be nice!
For now at least we have AW.

Thanks Danielle! Actually,

Thanks Danielle! Actually, Cher and I were just talking about creating chapters for AlphaWomen.com and start off doing it as strictly volunteer basis to see if it works. We haven't hammered out all of the details but eventually we would create a part of AlphaWomen.com that would go to each chapter and women could be apart of the over all community and join their individual chapters to get involved locally and off line.

I have so fabulous ideas regarding this plan and would love to hear your idea. But because we have people watching us and cluing in on what we are doing, email me any ideas or suggestions to freda@alphawomen.com . I would love to hear what each of you are thinking too!

On the same note we are trying to plan our first national "social" conference with our only agenda being in meeting one another and having the focus be on social networking, blogging and all the ins and outs of personal blogs, professional blogs, using facebook and some basic HTML code and marketing your business online.

We could have small/short break out sections in the morning and late afternoon with the rest of the time focuses on group - outdoor socializing, activities of your choice like hiking, biking, site-seeing and other things.

The last thing I want to do is go to another conference and listen to people talk to me the entire time, couped up in a dark ballroom. I want to meet people and have some fun!

What about you guys??? What is your ideal "conference" ? Or rather, what type of conferences would you attend for AlphaWomen.com?

Be creative here!

That is such a great idea!

That is such a great idea! For once I am SO glad I live near Chicago Smiling

I love barbecues and bonfires. It would be cool to have a lot of activities going on. GREAT IDEA!
