I was saving this post until we collected our video research from the streets. But, since it has been brought to light in a recent conversation over Hillary Clinton, I think it is in order to discuss Michael Moore's movie "Sicko" now.
I was deeply disturbed after I watched this movie. I was also inspired to find out more information and do my own research. I can't even begin to explain the disgust that rose up within the pit of my stomach over the way we are getting f@%ked by the American Health care system. I hold two people or organizations accountable: the politicians who the pharmaceutical companies have in their back pockets and who are benefiting from the revenue, and I blame the pharmaceutical companies for their greed and taking advantage of the system. But, somehow we let them.
We let some politicians sell us on what seemed like a great idea. It was put in a pretty box, with a pretty bow and served on a silver platter and we bought it hook, line and sinker. We believed in the government to take care of our health care needs. The government was the beacon of light in the darkness and their health care plan an angel sent form heaven.
What went wrong? Is it true that it was politicians backed by greed for money that turned health care into a disgusting bottom line business where people are now turned into a dollar sign and turned away from being healed and cared for?
At the same time, I have to question the push and influence by the food and drug administration over the years to push processed foods and fast food diets. Allowing the American diet to be changed so much that fruits and vegtables are no longer affordable to the poor or even middle class. BUT Mc Donalds is. Watch the movie "SUPER SIZE ME." So, instead of getting great nutrition at affordable prices we are eating McDonalds, and Burger King and are sicker, and fatter than ever. How many people even know what "real" food looks like anymore? Is this a luxury only affordable to the high income earners? Our children are ingesting so many growth hormones through their daily food sources that it is pushing them into early puberty pushing them into sexuality way before they are emotionally ready to handle it. It is bad enough in your teen, but pre-teens and earlier!
Shouldn't everyone be given the right to proper nutrition and health care at affordable prices? I know it seems that one issue has nothing to do with the other, but I think they are both deeply entwined.
It seems to me that pharmaceutical companies would like to make sure every American who is living and breathing is taking at least 10 medications because it furthers their interests and makes them richer. I wonder how many CEO's are on their own medications? I wonder if the CEO of McDonalds eats his own food?
I thank Michael for making the film, no matter how skewed it may be, he did the entire world a favor by getting us to have this difficult conversation, by exposing the politicians who are supporting the pharmacuetical companies and by forcing us to think about not only our future, but our children's future as well. Many times, it doesn't hurt us until it directly effects us.
I don't necessarily agree with all of Michael's documentation, but I agree that we have a huge health care crises on our hands. That being said, I am very open to hitting the streets and interviewing many people about their thoughts on our health care system, interviewing foreigners to find out if what Michael is saying is just extreme's, like my French friend said at breakfast, or is he right on the money? I will get to the bottom of it one way or the other and will share my results with you.

as an interesting side note on Mcdonalds - the one CEO died of a heart attack - and then Charlie Bell replaced him. Charlie Bell had actually worked for McDonald's since he was 15 flipping burgers - and worked his way up to eventually become CEO. But - he was only CEO for a short time because he died of colon cancer in his early 40's.
so not trying to sounding flippant - I think it's safe to say that the CEO's of McDonalds actually do eat the food.
