I normally don't post these sorts of promotional posts unless they have some good information in them. I thought this one did. I don't use tampons, never have. I know it a pain in the ass each month but I have always thought (without knowing the facts) that tampons couldn't be healthy.
October is breast cancer awareness month, but for women, health care can’t stop there.
A woman will use as many as 11,000 tampons in her life. What many women don’t know is that most brands contain rayon and rayon-cotton blends made with bleach and dioxin. Published scientific reports have shown that evidence is growing that even low levels of dioxins may be linked to cancer, endometriosis and immune system suppression.
We take care in choosing natural and organic foods so shouldn’t we do the same with our hygiene products?
Natracare tampons and pads are made from only certified organic 100% cotton and are the only fully certified organic cotton tampons available in the world today. They are non-chlorine bleached and women can be reassured that they do not contain synthetic materials, such as rayon, or chemical additives such as binders or surfactants. Certified organic cotton removes the risk of direct exposure to residues from chemical pesticides and fertilizers used on traditional cotton.

I am normally an advocate of the more natural the better. However, I have relied on tampons and been thankful for them for many years. I will switch what kind I use from now on. THANK YOU for this enlightening post.
With that said... Why does our FDA allow such harmful products in our society? Is it so the pharmaceutical companies can then provide the drugs to treat the diseases? Is it so the big business food and toiletries manufacturers can get away with mass producing their harmful products in the cheapest possible way, with the idea, "what they don't know, won't hurt them." The FDA is probably one of the most harmful government agencies in our country.
Thanks for this post Freda!
Thanks for this post Freda!
I have never been able to use tampons. They always make my cramps worse, and I too always thought something wasn't right about "preventing the flow."
And Sacey, you bring up thought provoking questions regarding the lack of oversight when it comes to companies and chemicals.
Sadly, If we are not swallowing it or using it to "treat" or "cure" something, it is not regulated by the FDA. That's how cosmetics companies get away with putting all the harmful stuff in their products too. I wrote a blog about this last year that I think I may have to repost. In the meantime, check out

THANKS!
Thanks for sharing that Beautymark! I agree 100%, I also believed that we have our period for a reason, it is cleansing our bodies out, to stop it or clog it just seems unhealthy.
I dated a guy once, albeit for a very short time, and I remember I was getting my period and asked him for a towel in the event that....well we all know what happens when you wear pads and he FREAKED out on me and wanted to know why I couldn't just wear a tampon to bed. He said that he never dated a girl with that "problem." Needless to say it wasn't very long after that I walked away.
Okay, so I color my own hair, what is out there that is a natural product with out all of the chemicals? Any suggestions besides, "Don't color your hair?"
Great Post!

I absolutely can't stand
I absolutely can't stand when guys treat the functions of the female body with such contempt. Could you imagine if women were equally disgusted with the liquids that come out of men's bodies??
Unfortunately, there isn't much out there in the way of hair dye that isn't toxic. Some products advertise as "less toxic" or they are all natural, but they don't last very long.
Check here: http://www.naturalhairdye.com/
I've never tried the less toxic hair dyes because I am very gray and very much don't want to be, so I unashamedly take my chances with the nasty stuff and hope for the best. If you ever try it, let me know how it works! That would be a good experiment.
